Upper and Lower Lakes
These twin lakes best represent modern day Bhopal. For those who like aquatic fun, there are opportunities for sailing and boating at MP Tourism’s Boat Club on the Upper Lake. The aquarium facing the lower lake houses a number of fascinating species. Open all days except Mondays from 3 to 7pm
Upper & Lower lakes of Bhopal
Situated on the banks of the Upper Lake, Gohar Mahal, which an architectural gem is dating back to the times of Qudsia Begum, also known as Gohar Begum, who built this sprawling palace in 1820. The mahal is a magnificent expression of the fusion of the Hindu and Mughal architecture.
This 445 hectares safari park is located on a hill adjacent to Upper Lake. It is home to many animals and makes a great picnic spot for those with families.
Open everyday, except Tuesday from 7 to 11 am and 3 to 5.30 pm.
South of the Lower Lake is the modern Lakshmi Narayan (Birla) Temple (Vaishnavite), Arera Hills. There are good views from here and in the evening from Shamla Hills.
Laxminarayan Temple and Museum
Situated on the Arera Hills, the temple has a museum attached to it which houses a collection of sculptures from Raisen, Sehore, Mandsaur and Shahdol districts of Madhya Pradesh. The Museum is open from 9 am to 5 pm on all days except Mondays.
